TUCSON, AZ – For the first time in nearly 90 years, the Arizona Football team (0-3, 0-0) loses to the NAU Lumberjacks by a 21-19 final.

It was a day many had anticipated that Arizona Football would finally get over the hump. After being losers in 14-straight games, the Wildcats were supposed to win against the lowly NAU Lumberjacks, especially as they entered the game as the 24-point favorites.

However, after committing seven penalties for 126 yards, and turning the ball over three times, the Wildcats lost in shocking fashion to NAU, falling for the first time in over 85 years by a 21-19 final.

All week, the Wildcats worked to get Will Plummer ready as the starting quarterback, and despite taking a 13-0 lead, it wasn’t enough for Arizona.

Committing mistake after mistake, and making poor decision after poor decision, Arizona was stunned at home by a hungrier, more focused, and better coached team in NAU.

There was plenty of optimism surrounding Jedd Fisch and Arizona Football entering the year, however, a loss to NAU has the Wildcats at rock bottom.

For the past seven months or so, it has been nothing but build-up with this team. Fisch “upgraded” the defense by adding several key pieces via the transfer portal, and did wonders to keep a lot of the offensive pieces intact, however, it was all for not.

Coming into the year, we knew this was going to be a rough season for Arizona Football. We didn’t expect many wins, and after a competitive start against BYU, there was optimism, even in a competitive loss.

Since then, the Wildcats have regressed significantly, and fans are in a panic, including me!

As it stands, the team has lost 15-straight and owns the nation’s longest active losing streak. The road also gets significantly more difficult from here on out.

If we learned anything from Saturday’s evening loss to the Lumberjacks, it is that this team needs coaching, development, and an infusion of talent in the worst way.

Losing to NAU is inexcusable for Arizona regardless of the lack of talent fans think Arizona doesn’t have. And even following the Kevin Sumlin years that saw a 70-7 loss to ASU, this is the worst loss in recent Arizona Football history.
