Arizona Football travels to Boulder still in search of their first win, and the keys to the Wildcats’ success are in the play of the quarterback and the offense.

We’re finally into week six of the season for Arizona Football, and their matchup against Colorado on Saturday afternoon may be one of the last, winnable games for the Wildcats.

Coming in, the Wildcats are 0-5 (0-2) on the year, while the Buffaloes are (1-4, 0-2), and both teams are averaging under 20 points per game. So naturally, we should expect an offensive slugfest.

And as Arizona travels to Boulder, Wildcat sophomore Gunner Cruz will reassume the responsibilities at quarterback, especially after Jordan McCloud went down with a season-ending injury last week against UCLA.

Coming in, Arizona Football still has a chance to win this game, however, a victory is contingent on the play of the offense and the quarterback.

At this point, we are all too aware of the Wildcats’ deficiencies, particularly on the offensive side of the ball, and arguably at the forefront of that is that play at Quarterback. The position has been the Wildcats’ biggest weakness, and even when faced with a winnable game, Cruz will need to step up in a major way if a win is going to happen.

Already appearing in three games, the sophomore signal-caller has completed 48-71 passes (67.6 percent), with 454 yards and two touchdowns to just two interceptions.

While the stat line looks respectable, where Cruz has fallen short is in leading the offense to the end zone. In his two starts, the Wildcats are averaging just 15.0 points per game.

Against Colorado, he and the Wildcats are going to need to find more ways in finishing some of those drives and putting more points on the board.

To me, Cruz still has a lot of admirable qualities that you could want at quarterback, and the thing to like about him is that he has a lot of poise and confidence when he gets to the huddle.

The tools are there, he just needs to flip the switch and raise the level of play, otherwise, the Wildcats are going to be 0-6 (0-3).
