Former Wildcat standout shooting guard Gabe York has found a new home as he was selected by the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the NBA G-League Draft.

The 2021-22 NBA Season is underway, which means the NBA’s G-League season is not far behind. And with the Draft happening just days ago, a familiar face in Gabe York will be making an appearance.

Making news recently was that York was selected into the NBA’s Development League, and was selected No. 3 overall to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, an affiliate to the NBA’s Indiana Pacers.

Now 28, Gabe is the former Southern California native and standout shooting guard with the Wildcats that played from 2012-16. Gabe appeared in 120 games with the Wildcats, making 55 starts.

In his four seasons spent in Tucson, Gabe had some rather productive and memorable years, finishing his career by averaging 8.9 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game, all while shooting 39.8 percent from three. Since then, he’s been well-traveled as he’s continued his basketball career.

Making stops in Italy with Vanoli Cremona, and then with the NBA G-League’s Erie BayHawks, Medi Bayreuth (Germany), Lakeland Magic (NBA G-League), AEK Athens (Greece), SIG Strasbourg (France), and most recently with Hapoel Tel Aviv (Israel).

Well, after some time away from the states, Gabe York returns to the G-League, and let’s hope for the former Wildcats sake, the move is a fortuitous one.

As we highlighted earlier, Gabe has already made appearances in the G-League, having played with Erie from 2016-17 and with Lakeland from 2018-19. During his stint’s in the NBA G-League, he was a recipient of the League’s Sportsmanship Award in 2019.

Well, after a couple of seasons removed, Gabe makes his long-anticipated return to the NBA G-League, and the expectations for York are rather high this time around as he is considered one of the better prospects.

Here’s to hoping Gabe continues to find success, and we wish him nothing but the best!
