Arizona Football: C Josh McCauley receiving high praise in 2021
Even with Arizona Football amid a losing season, center Josh McCauley is one of the few bright spots, drawing high praise in 2021.
It has been a rough year watching and following Arizona Football in 2021 as the Wildcats are 0-7 (0-4) and currently riding a 19-game losing streak. However, even amidst the Wildcats’ woes, center Josh McCauley has been one of the few bright spots.
Originally a standout lineman at Red Mountain High School in Mesa, AZ, McCauley walked on for the Wildcats back in 2016, immediately redshirting, as he waited for his opportunity.
Well, it didn’t take long for him to make an impact. McCauley got his first action in 2017 as he served as a back-up at center, and then shortly after, he became a starter and eventual star, en route to earning a scholarship.
In 2021, Josh McCauley is a redshirt senior and anchor along the offensive line for Arizona Football, and once again, he is on the Rimington Trophy watchlist!
Now, while the competition may be stiff at this point, especially as the Wildcats have had their fair of struggles in moving and scoring the football, however, McCauley is certainly making a strong case as to why he is college football’s top center.
Even amidst the Wildcats’ struggles, McCauley has received an impressive blocking grade of 78.0 from PFF College Football. Even more remarkable, is that in 325 pass blocking snaps, McCauley has yet to allow a single sack!
When you look at the Wildcats and all that they have endured this year, this is an impressive feat and one that should not be so easily overlooked. McCauley has easily been one of the few bright spots on a rather forgetful and disappointing season, and we are excited to see him get well-deserved recognition and praise!
