Loss by Arizona Football gives Cats something to build on
Despite losing their 20th straight game, and falling to 0-8 (0-5) on the season, the loss to USC gives Arizona Football plenty to build on.
It is hard to find any positives from the Arizona Football program these days, especially as the team fell to 0-8 (0-5) on the year following their competitive, 41-34 loss to USC, and have now lost 20-straight games dating back to 2018.
However, for those still looking for silver linings with a program that is still in the early stages of a full-blown rebuild, look no further than the Cats’ efforts against USC on Saturday evening.
Coming in, the Wildcats were considered 21-point underdogs and even lost Jamarye Joiner midway through the game to a knee injury as they trailed 35-14 at halftime.
Nonetheless, the Cats were resilient and responded in a big way, climbing their way back to make it 41-34 with over a minute left to play. Unfortunately, a failed onside kick by Arizona would seal this one, delivering yet another loss to the Cats.
Even as Arizona Football falls to 0-8 (0-5) on the year and now has lost 20 straight, there are plenty of positives for the Cats to build on.
It’s tough finding the positives in losses, but from Arizona’s loss on Saturday, these are the key takeaways to be optimistic about…
Will Plummer played his best game in an Arizona uniform so far
He may not be the quintessential college quarterback and has even run into his fair share of struggles this season, but on Saturday against USC, he looked poised and confident and was a big reason the Cats were competitive in this one.
Hopefully, we get to see this version of Will for the rest of the season, and if we do, perhaps Arizona could sneak out a win or two after all. Either way, this is a great game for him to build off of.
The Offense Scored 34 points!
It had been a while since Arizona had scored over 20 points, and for the first time in 2021, the Wildcats finally got above the 20-point threshold!
Will Arizona be able to replicate this offensive performance for the rest of the season? That’s hard to say, but it is at least a major positive moving forward, and hopefully something that the Wildcats can build off of as well.
Arizona showed plenty of fight for a team that is 0-8
Losing is never fun, and for a team that is on its third head coach in the last five years and is just 16-34 during that time, it would be easy to just pack things in and quit on the season. However, head coach Jedd Fisch and staff deserve a ton of credit for getting these kids to still believe and competing for week-in and week-out!
Hopefully, the Wildcats continue to believe and will keep fighting, and just maybe they will be able to sneak out a win here soon!
