We may be a year removed from the 2020 season, but Covid is still having an impact as several Cal players could be out this week against Arizona Football.

2020 was a hell of a year as Covid had impacted all of college football, and several teams were affected with game cancelations, player absences, etc. Well in 2021, it is still having somewhat of an impact as Cal could be without several players against Arizona Football.

Cal is coming off a big upset win over Oregon State, and their play of late has the Bears opening the week as a 12-point favorite against our winless Cats, however, it looks like that could be all changing.

For those that maybe didn’t see it, it was revealed on Thursday afternoon that “multiple” football players are in Covid protocol for Cal, and will not play against Arizona this Saturday.

Just how many are impacted is only being speculated at this point, but the plan is for all the student-athletes traveling to Tucson to be tested again just before flying to Arizona.

Even with Covid hitting Cal hard, the Golden Bears still hope to have enough players to play and compete against Arizona Football.

Arizona enters an interesting scenario with Cal here. Despite the Golden Bears opening the week as double-digit favorites against the winless Cats, the absences could have an impact on the outcome of this game, or worse cause a forfeiture by Cal.

For those that maybe missed it, the Pac-12 announced earlier in the year that any games that cannot be played because of Covid keeping teams from competing will result in a forfeit.

Now, that’s not to say a forfeiture would indeed happen, but it is an interesting thing to follow here as the Wildcats prepare for the Golden Bears. Either way, we should know my answers by Friday.

As for Arizona, I think the preferred scenario would be to compete safely and get the win the right way. The Wildcats need to learn how to win as a group again, and should a forfeiture happen, technically Arizona would get the win, but they wouldn’t learn anything from it.
