Linebacker Jerry Roberts is Arizona Football’s Baby Ray Lewis
Jerry Roberts wanted to play for Arizona Football Defensive Coordinator Don Brown in Tucson, and the pairing has produced success on the field.
Jerry Roberts‘ dad is very invested in his sons success and for good reason, Roberts has been showing up in big games. Just recently Roberts had one of his best games against Utah racking up 10 tackles. He was all over the place!
During the week leading up to the Friday night game against Washington State, Jerry was interviewed by Kimberly Becker. The Bowling Green transfer spoke about his competitive and close relationship with Anthony Pandy, his relationship with his dad, and his experience playing in the snow. Pandy spoke about Roberts at the Pac-12 Media Day as well.
When we asked Dana Cooper who was the most animated and supportive hype man on the sidelines, he didn’t hesitate, “Jerry Roberts by far.”
Being his dad and his high school football coach, we thought we would reach out to his dad with the same name, Jerry Roberts, to get his take on how his son doing so far.
“I’m a proud Arizona parent,” said the senior Roberts, “The 36-hour drive getting him there was well worth it. He’s looking good but has room for improvement. He’s a hard worker who’s always had to go the extra mile just to get what or where he wants. He calls himself First48 aka Baby Ray Lewis,” said Jerry’s father. So we have a new nickname for No. 48! Baby Ray Lewis!
Ray Lewis was a leader, a player his teammates could count on, and he is an NFL Champion full of life and vigor. So we can see why his dad gave him the nickname Baby Ray Lewis.
Heartbreaking as it was for him and for Wildcats fans, Roberts missed almost the entire game against Washington State as he was injured on the first play with a leg injury.
He ends the season with 34 total tackles, 12 solo, 1.5 sacks and lots of promise for the future. This is impressive because he did not play until the third game and only has played in six games.
Roberts proved that he is a force to recon with, and the Wildcats are fortunate to have him back next season as he is a true leader. He is specifically the type of player lots of fans were hoping would decide to commit to the program, someone with heart, integrity, a will to win, and skills.
The Brave No. 48 Tweeted out his sentiments: “Thank you everyone so much for you prayers. This is all part of my journey as I’m forever thankful for my Arizona family. I’m excited to see what me and the team can do next season #Godsplan.” We are assuming he is out for the season but will be cheering and hyping up the team from the
We hope Baby Ray Lewis will heal quickly and be back on the field getting better every day.
