As Arizona Basketball continues its hot start for 2021-22, head coach Tommy Lloyd is being considered an early candidate for Coach of Year.

Great things are brewing down in Tucson as the 2021-22 Arizona Basketball season continues. And so far, the mastermind behind the Wildcats’ early-season success has been head coach Tommy Lloyd.

The longtime Gonzaga assistant that took over for Sean Miller back in April, and coming in, Lloyd inherited a solid group with some rather lofty expectations.

However, Lloyd still deserves a ton of credit as he has also done wonders to this team as he added key transfers like Justin Kier, Oumar Ballo, and Pelle Larsson while also adding his coaching flare to a talented group.

And because of the hot start by Arizona Basketball and head coach Tommy Lloyd, Lloyd is considered an early candidate for National Coach of the Year.

Making news via social media on Monday afternoon, NCAA March Madness announced their list of Coach of the Year candidates, and coming in at No. 1 on their list is Coach Lloyd. He also joins big names like Scott Drew, Tom Izzo, Bruce Pearl, and Andy Enfield among others.

So far in 2021-22, the Wildcats are getting it done on the court! Off to a 12-1 (2-0) start, the Wildcats are still leading the nation in offensive production as they are averaging 89.9 points per game.

Beyond that, the defense was been quite stellar too as they are holding opponents to just 65.2 points per game on 36.8 percent shooting from the field.

Arizona’s schedule should heat up in the coming weeks too, with games against UCLA and USC coming. The Bruins and Trojans are currently Top 10 in the country as well, with the Wildcats right behind both at No. 8.

Either way, we are excited for Coach Lloyd and the Wildcats and cannot wait to see how the rest of this season turns out!
