Off to a great start in 2021-22, Arizona Basketball big man Christian Koloko has been named to the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year watch list.

Arizona Basketball is having a great start to the 2021-22 season, and a big part of their success has been the play of their big man, Christian Koloko.

A former standout at the talented Sierra Canyon in Southern California in the class of 2019, Koloko was a unique talent coming out of high school, as he was a player that was considered more of a long-term project.

Having gotten into the sport at a later age, Christian was behind in terms of development in comparison to some of his counterparts; however, his potential was always incredibly high.

Well, this season, Christian has made a noticeable and sizable jump! So far in 2021-22, he is averaging 13.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game in 18 games played. Koloko has been so impressive, he has even been called the most improved player in the country by UCLA’s Mick Cronin.

However, more impressive than his offensive play has been his defensive presence. The 7-foot-1 big man is averaging 3.1 blocks per game and is a big reason the Wildcats have one of the best defenses in the country.

On Thursday afternoon, Arizona Basketball center Christian Koloko was named to the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year watch list.

Making news on Thursday afternoon, Koloko finally got the notoriety he deserves as he was put on the Defensive Player of the Year watch list, joining an elite list of defenders in college basketball.

With Koloko facing some stiff competition, the challenge won’t be easy; however, the recognition is well-deserved for Arizona, and it also gives the program even more exposure.

At Zona Zealots, we are happy for Christian and cannot wait to see how he finishes out this season! As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
