Arizona Football and ASU Football are trending in different directions
As Arizona Football and ASU Football are fully entrenched in busy off-seasons, both programs are currently trending in very different directions.
It has been tough being a fan of Arizona Football the past 3-4 years as the Wildcats won just a handful of games, and arguably have endured their worst stretch of football in program history.
But thankfully, these past couple of months have given fans a sense of hope and encouragement for brighter days ahead.
Since the season ended, Arizona signed a Top 25 recruiting, the 2nd overall best-recruiting class in the conference, and they also added several key transfers.
While no rational person is expecting Arizona to suddenly compete for Pac-12 Championships or higher-level bowl games next season. However, for the first time in a while, it appears there is once again a clear path in building towards a competent, and competitive group.
Roughly just 100 miles north of us, ASU seems to be going through just the opposite. Despite going 25-18 with three bowl appearances and two-second place finishes in the Pac-12 South over the past four seasons, that successful stretch may soon be ending.
For the past year, the Devils have been embroiled in controversy all stemming from illegal recruiting visits, and their program could soon be facing NCAA punishment.
So with Arizona Football trending upwards and ASU Football trending down, the two programs are currently heading in very different directions.
Making news this off-season have been several coaching departures/separations, as well as a myriad of key transfers leaving Arizona State, but perhaps none bigger than the departure of quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Just days ago, the three-year starter and key focal point of the offense announced he is putting his name in the infamous transfer portal, and his departure has the Sun Devils scrambling.
It is no secret that impending sanctions are coming for ASU, and brighter days do not seem to be waiting for the Sun Devils. Meanwhile, the Wildcats seemingly continue to experience several off-season wins.
At this juncture, it is hard to say exactly what kind of seasons either program will have next year; however, it is clear that these two programs are trending in opposite directions and quickly. Either way, we are all here for it and cannot wait to see the Devils continue to bottom out.
