Arizona Basketball: Bennedict Mathurin named Pac-12 Player of the Week
Following another terrific week, Arizona Basketball wing Bennedict Mathurin was selected as the Pac-12 Player of the Week after huge games against the Oregon schools.
Arizona Basketball has been on a roll this season, and a big part of their success has been the play of sophomore wing Bennedict Mathurin, as the Canadian native earned Pac-12 Player of the Week honors yet again.
An award that was given out on Monday afternoon, Mathurin was named Conference Player of the Week after his stellar performances against Oregon State and Oregon this past week.
In his game against Oregon State, Ben was a big part of the Wildcats’ win, finishing his day with 20 points on 6-14 shooting, including 2-6 from beyond the arc. Mathurin also finished with two rebounds, an assist, and two steals. Arizona went on to beat Oregon State 83-69.
For those that don’t remember, Ben also had a huge game in Corvallis this year and last year, finishing with 29 points and a career-high 31 points respectively.
Against Oregon, he was even better! Ben finished his night with 24 points, seven rebounds, and five assists on 9-17 (4-7) shooting as Arizona won 84-81 in a thriller!
Bennedict Mathurin was named Pac-12 Player of the Week for the third time this season and he continues to shine for Arizona Basketball.
Big things are brewing in Tucson for first-year head coach Tommy Lloyd and the Wildcats, and Ben is a big reason for that. The Wildcats are playing great basketball this year as they continue to play an unselfish brand of basketball.
A player that came to Tucson as a bit of an underrated player, Mathurin continues to surprise many as the sophomore wing is averaging 17.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists on 47.4 percent field goal shooting, including 37.8 percent from three.
Mathurin and the Wildcats will return to action on Thursday when they take on Utah, followed by another big matchup against Colorado on Saturday.
