Following another huge week for Arizona Basketball, the Wildcats have climbed up the rankings in the AP Top 25 Poll, moving up to No. 2 on Monday afternoon.
Arizona Basketball has been on a roll this season in Tommy Lloyd’s first year as head coach. The Wildcats are currently 24-2 (14-1) on the year, picking up marquee wins against then No. 5 Michigan, Illinois, UCLA, USC, and Wichita State among several others.
Last Monday, Arizona moved up to No. 3 after beating ASU, Washington State, and Washington on the road from the week prior.
Well after the week the Wildcats just had, it was inevitable that Arizona would be climbing the ranks a bit more, especially after Auburn lost yet again.
Well, making news on Monday afternoon, the Associated Press released their latest, weekly Top 25 poll, and coming in at No. 2 on the list was our Wildcats, trailing just Gonzaga (1).
Thanks in part to some upsets in college basketball this week Arizona Basketball finds themselves at their highest ranking on the season.
Also joining Arizona from the Pac-12 Conference was UCLA (No. 12) and USC (No. 16), meanwhile, Oregon did not receive any votes, after losing to both Arizona State and Arizona.
So, with the Wildcats now ranking No. 2 in the country, they will have to stay focused this week as they face a brutal road stretch. Arizona will travel to take on Utah on Thursday, followed by a tough challenge against Colorado on Saturday.
Then come next Tuesday, Arizona will have to prepare for a showdown between two Top 25 teams as they take on the Trojans in Los Angeles.
The challenge won’t be an easy one, but should the Wildcats take care of business this week, Arizona can easily maintain its current standing as well as strengthen its postseason resume!
