No. 2 Arizona Basketball suffers beatdown to the Buffaloes
BOULDER, CO – On an evening in which the Wildcats would like to forget, No. 2 Arizona Basketball (25-3, 15-2) fell to Colorado (19-10, 11-8), 79-63.
Fresh off a dominant win over Utah and riding a nine-game winning streak, Arizona Basketball was looking to keep their hot streak going as they took on Colorado on Saturday evening, with Pac-12 Title implications on the line.
And from the start, it was competitive as both teams brought the energy in the first half. The Wildcats and Buffaloes would go neck and neck for much of the first half, with neither team seemingly able to gain the upper hand.
Arizona would finally start to find their rhythm towards the end of the half, gaining a little momentum as they jumped out to a 33-27 lead with 2:15 to play.
Colorado would make a little run, but luckily, the Wildcats would finish the half holding on to a slim, but comfortable lead at 37-32.
However, a strong second half by Colorado would be too much for Arizona Basketball as the Buffaloes outscored the Wildcats 47-26.
Leading by five, Arizona needed continued focus and effort if they were going to win, unfortunately, Colorado had different ideas on senior day.
Starting the second half on an 11-5 run, Colorado would take the lead at 43-42 and wouldn’t look back either as they expanded their lead to three, then to five, until they eventually had too much momentum for the Wildcats to overcome.
Arizona would pull within four points with 11:18 to play, unfortunately for the Wildcats, that would be the closest that they would be able to get as the Buffaloes would thrash the Cats, pacing themselves to the 16-point victory.
Where does Arizona Basketball go from here?
With the loss, Arizona falls to 25-3 (15-2) on the year and sits atop the Pac-12 standings with just a handful of games remaining. The Wildcats will return to action on Tuesday when they take USC. That game will assuredly decide who wins the Pac-12 regular-season title.
