No. 2 Arizona Basketball awaits Stanford or ASU in Vegas
The 2021-22 regular season may be over for No. 2 Arizona Basketball; however, the action is just picking up as the Wildcats enter the Pac-12 Tournament.
It is the most wonderful time of year, well, at least for Arizona Basketball fans as the Wildcats are gearing up for what should be another eventful March Madness.
Now, while we are still nearly a week away from selection Sunday, the Wildcats are beginning preparations for the Pac-12 Conference Tournament, and more importantly their first-round matchup.
Coming in, the Wildcats enter the conference tournament as the No. 1 seed, having claimed the Pac-12 regular-season title. And while bigger things may be on the horizon for the Cats, the focus has to be on their potential matchup with either Arizona State or Stanford.
Here’s a look at both teams’ current résumé.
Getting to Know the details of Arizona Basketball’s potential opponent, the Arizona State Sun Devils.
Team: Arizona State Sun Devils
Pac-12 Conference Standing: 8th
2021-22 Record: The Sun Devils are 14-16 (10-10) on the year and winners of four straight. ASU did a great job closing out the regular season en route to an 8th place finish in the Pac-12 Conference, and they are arguably one of the hottest teams in the conference right now.
Marquee Wins: Won at Creighton (58-57), defeated then-No. 3 UCLA (87-84 – 3OT), swept Oregon (69-67 on the road), and 81-57 at home, also defeated Colorado (82-65 on the road).
Getting to Know the details of Arizona Basketball’s potential opponent, the Stanford Cardinal.
Team: Stanford Cardinal
Pac-12 Conference Standing: 9th
2021-22 Record: The Cardinal are 15-15 (8-12) on the year and are currently riding a five-game losing streak. Despite looking like a competitive group at one point this season, Stanford has fallen off the past couple of weeks and will now face a rematch against Arizona State to open Tournament play.
Marquee Wins: Swept Top 25 ranked USC, winning 72-59 at home 64-61 on the road. The Cardinal also defeated Oregon (72-69) and beat Wyoming (66-63).
