TUCSON, AZ – Returning to action on Tuesday evening, No. 16 Arizona Baseball (10-3) rallied to beat New Mexico (4-8, 1-2) by a 12-5 final.

It wasn’t the prettiest game for the first few innings, but despite falling behind early on, No. 16 Arizona Baseball rallied late in the game on Tuesday as the Wildcats came away with the 12-5 victory over the visiting New Mexico Lobos.

Aside from a rough third and sixth inning, Arizona’s Anthony Susac looked solid overall on the day, surrendering five runs (four earned) on nine hits while striking out eight.

It was the Wildcats’ bullpen, however, that would come in late and close things down for Arizona as they helped deliver the win.

However, the bigger story of the day was the Wildcats’ bat coming alive late. Led behind the stellar offensive play from Jack Grant, Nik McClaughry, and Daniel Susac, together, the three went a combined 9-12 from the dish, belting two home runs and eight RBIs.

Despite falling behind early, the bats came alive late for Arizona Baseball, as the Wildcats got back in the win column on Tuesday evening.

Tied 3-3 heading into the sixth, New Mexico would use a few timely hits to plate two more runs and regain the lead at 5-3 in this one.

Luckily for us, Arizona would have a huge response in the bottom of the seventh inning. Trailing 5-3, the Wildcats would explode for eight runs, as Susac and Grant would blast two, three-run home runs.

Pulling ahead 11-5 after seven, the Wildcats would add another insurance run in the eighth inning when Mac Bingham flied out to center field, scoring Chase Davis to make it 12-5 and helping deliver the eventual win!

Where does Arizona Baseball go from here?

With the win, Arizona improves to 10-3 on the year and will return to action on Friday when they travel to Berkeley to take on Cal for a three-game series. That road trip against the Golden Bears will kick off conference play for the Wildcats.
