Following a tremendous sophomore season, Arizona Basketball wing Bennedict Mathurin has been named a Second-Team All-American by Associated Press.

Arizona Basketball had one hell of a season as the Wildcats finished the year with an NCAA-leading 31 wins, a record-breaking 18 Pac-12 Conference wins, a regular-season Conference Title, as well as a Conference Tournament Title. And behind the Wildcats’ success has been the play of sophomore wing, Bennedict Mathurin.

A talented and explosive wing, the Canadian native has made tremendous strides this year, becoming a collegiate star and likely guaranteed lottery pick in the upcoming 2022 NBA Draft.

He wowed us with his relentless energy and effort, and his big playmaking ability has been a big reason that the Wildcats are 31-3 on the year and are a No. 1 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

This year, Benn is averaging 17.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game, and was also named the Pac-12 Conference Player of the Year, a Sporting News 2nd-Team All-American, the Pac-12 Conference Tournament MVP, and he is still on several watchlists.

However, making news on Tuesday, Arizona Basketball star Bennedict Mathurin received more accolades as he was named an AP 2nd Team All-American.

In 2021-22, Mathurin has received a lot of recognition for his level of play, and perhaps none have been bigger than being named a Second-Team All-American by the Associated Press.

Also joining Mathurin on the Second-Team All-American list was; Jabari Smith (Auburn), Drew Timme (Gonzaga), Jaden Ivey (Purdue), and Chet Holmgren (Gonzaga), while Oscar Tshiebwe (Kentucky), Johnny Davis (Wisconsin), Ochai Agbaji (Kansas), Kofi Cockburn (Illinois), and Keegan Murray (Iowa) all made First-Team.

Mathurin was the only Pac-12 player named to the All-American list!

What’s next for Mathurin and the Wildcats?

For Bennedict and the Wildcats, the NCAA Tournament starts on Friday, where Arizona will await the winner of Bryant and Wright State. Mathurin is still in the running for other potential awards, and those will be announced shortly.
