TUCSON, AZ – Capping off their Spring practices with a fun-filled scrimmage, the Red Team, led by Lance Briggs came away with the 24-21 win for Arizona Football.

Returning to Tucson yet again for the annual Spring game for Arizona Football, former Wildcat Tedy Bruschi was once again vying for a win as an honorary head coach for the Wildcats; however, the Red Team, commanded by Lance Briggs, came away with the narrow, 24-21 win.

On a day that reached 90º, fans were cooled down on the sidelines with the ‘splash zone’, but on the field, Arizona Football was making a splash as several players made their first official appearances as Wildcats.

Leading the ‘Red Team’, Washington State transfer Jayden de Laura got the start for the Wildcats, showing some of those flashes of brilliance that he had with the Cougars last season, as he looked comfortable in coach Jedd Fisch’s offense.

Also making their debuts were a myriad of freshmen that included Noah Fifita, Tetairoa McMillan, A.J. Jones, Jai-Ayviauynn Celestine, Keyan Burnett, and Jonah Coleman among several others.

On the flip side of that, Jordan McCloud made a re-appearance for the ‘Blue Team, as the former USF transfer returned from the gruesome leg injury he suffered last season.

McCloud opened the game with an impressive drive that resulted in seven points after he connected with Burnett in the end zone to make it 7-0 Blue Team early into Arizona’s Saturday action.

But overall, it was a successful day for Arizona Football as the Wildcats looked like a significantly improved group from last season.

On a day where valuable reps and roster competition are far more important than recording who won or lost, it was a big day for Fisch and the Wildcats.

This is a group that is just months removed from a season in which they won just one game; however, there seems to be a nice buzz growing around the Wildcats.

Arizona brought in several new faces on offense and defense, and overall, the level of talent has been raised immensely. But beyond that, the Wildcats escaped the day fairly unscathed from an injury standpoint, and this team has some good foundational pieces to build off of in 2022.

So where do the Wildcats go from here?

Well, Spring Football may be officially over for the Cats; however, that doesn’t mean that the work suddenly stops. Now comes an important time for Arizona Football, where the Wildcats will have to get back into the weight room and start making preparations for the 2022 season.

But in the meantime, the temperature seems to be steadily rising for Arizona Football, and I am not talking about the weather!
