No. 20 Arizona Baseball hopes to get back on track vs NMSU
Fresh off a bad series loss to Washington State, No. 20 Arizona Baseball (22-10, 10-5) returns to action to take on New Mexico State in Hi Corbett Field.
It has been a rough week for Arizona Baseball! After jumping out to a 21-7 (9-3) record, the Wildcats came crashing back to reality after dropping a mid-week tilt against ASU, and losing two of three to last place Pac-12 foe, Washington State.
Granted, losses in baseball happen; however, as we all saw, Arizona ran into some concerning struggles as pitching and errors cost the Wildcats some games.
Luckily, the great thing about the sport is that you play so many games, you always have a chance to rebound and get back on track. And despite dropping two of three to Wazzu, the Wildcats have a great opportunity to get back in the win column.
Coming in, the Wildcats face a struggling New Mexico State team, and it is also a program that Arizona has historically done well against, owning a 57-8 advantage.
Even despite their recent struggles at the plate, Arizona is still considered to be one of the better offensive teams in the country, hitting a respectable .291 from the dish collectively while belting 34 home runs, 210 RBIs, 63 doubles, and 19 triples.
However, where the Wildcats seem to struggle is in the deeper parts of their bullpen as well as on defense.
As a group, Arizona has combined for a 4.05 ERA with 261 strikeouts to just 125 base on balls. The Wildcats’ pitchers are allowing opposing teams to hit .241 from the plate. Beyond that, things have been very rocky defensively for Arizona as the Wildcats committed 43 errors through 32 games.
Here’s a look at the Wildcats’ upcoming opponent.
