BIRMINGHAM, AL – Taking part in the inaugural game of the USFL season, former Wildcat Scooby Wright shined in the Birmingham Stallions’ 28-24 win.

It has been a long and interesting road for former Arizona Football star Scooby Wright. A once, underrated and unheralded high school recruit that became a collegiate star, Wright seemed destined for bigger and better.

He would be drafted in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns; however, his time in the NFL would be short-lived, making brief appearances with the Arizona Cardinals and the New England Patriots before his time ran out.

And following his brief stint in the NFL, he would eventually appear with the Arizona Hotshots and the DC Defenders, both teams that are now a part of the defunct AAF and XFL leagues respectively.

Once again, Scooby Wright was back to doing what he does best, wreaking havoc in the opposing backfield, this time as a professional football player of the USFL.

Making his debut in the inaugural season of the USFL, it was a spirited battle between the Birmingham Stallions and the New Jersey Generals on Saturday evening in front of a crowd of about 17,500. And from the start, it was an entertaining one.

Trading scores for much of the game, it was a tight one, but luckily, it was Wright and the Stallions that were able to come away triumphant in the end as Birmingham secured the 28-24 victory.

Now, while players like J’Mar Smith, Osirus Mitchell, and De’Andre Johnson among others will likely steal most of the headlines in this one, our beloved Scooby deserves plenty of recognition as well.

Making plays at linebacker as he did at Arizona, Scooby would finish his evening with four tackles (two solo), a sack, and a forced fumble.

On Saturday evening, Scooby showed glimpses of his former self, and if this league is to work out, it looks like we could enjoy seeing Wright play football just a little while longer!

Here are highlights from the Stallions’ win!
