OMAHA, NE – Taking part in a two-game series against Creighton, Arizona Baseball (26-12, 11-7) was able to come away with the sweet of the Bluejays.

After Arizona Baseball fell to Utah in two out of three games over the weekend, the Wildcats were able to rebound in a big way, earning the mid-week, two-game sweep over Creighton.

Arizona’s bats were just enough in this series, plating nine runs in the two games, getting big contributions from guys like Mac Bingham, Daniel Susac, and Tony Bullard among others.

However, the bigger story here was the pitching. It has doomed Arizona several times already this one, but this time, the pitching came up clutch for the Cats, holding Creighton to just one run despite getting 11 hits in two days.

Despite looking a bit lost against Utah, Arizona Baseball rebounded against a competitive Creighton team on the road.

Game 1:

Turning to Holden Christian as the starter in game one, it would be a group effort for the Cats here, as Arizona used six different pitchers. However, it ultimately did not matter how many arms Arizona used, the Wildcats were stellar on the mound, holding the Bluejays to just seven hits while striking out 12 Creighton batters and only walking three.

The offense would stumble out of the gates, unfortunately, unable to plate any runs over the first six innings. But luckily, the offense came alive late in the game.

Breaking the scoreless tie and plating a run in the seventh, Bullard would homer to left field to make it 1-0 Cats.

And thanks to some timely hitting, Arizona wouldn’t stop there! Plating three more runs in the eighth inning, Arizona would strike again in the ninth when they were able to bring in two more to make it 6-0 in favor of the Wildcats.

Arizona was able to go on to win game one by a 6-0 final, and Anthony Susac picked up the win to improve to 2-1 on the year.

Game 2:

Again using a pitcher by committee method, Arizona would use a bevy of arms in this one as six different Wildcat pitchers took to the mound.

Once again going with Christian to start the game, he would quickly be pulled after surrendering a run in the first inning, being relieved by Javyn Pimental. Arizona would see brief action from several others, ultimately holding the Bluejays to just the lone run on four hits. The Wildcats were able to strike out 10 Creighton batters.

The offense would start slow again in this one, not plating any runs until late in the game, but once the sixth inning came around, the Wildcats’ bats came alive in a big way! Trailing 1-0, Arizona would use some timely hitting, plating three runs in the top of the sixth inning to take the lead.

Leading 3-1, Arizona’s pitchers would hold Creighton to end it, coming away with the 3-1 win and a two-game sweep of the Bluejays.

Where does Arizona Baseball go from here?

With the wins, Arizona improves to 26-12 (11-7) on the year and will return to action this weekend when they take part in a three-game homestand against rival Arizona State.
