TUCSON, AZ – Despite falling behind 6-4, Arizona Baseball (27-12, 12-7) rallied to beat ASU (19-19, 8-8) in 10 innings by a 7-6 final.

Fresh off a two-game series sweep of Creighton just days ago, Arizona Baseball finally returned to action to take rival ASU for the start of an important three-game Pac-12 series against their hated rival.

Arizona kicked off the weekend action with TJ Nichols on the mound to start game one. And overall, the Wildcats’ sophomore hurler would play fairly well, ending his day by surrendering three runs on seven hits in four-and-two-thirds innings pitched.

However, despite Arizona’s hot start in this one, their lead would, unfortunately, dissipate as ASU would come storming back, taking the 6-4 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth inning.

Desperately needing a rally, Arizona Baseball wouldn’t go quietly in this one, coming up with big hits late in the game, to come away with the eventual win.

Arizona would jump out to a 4-0 lead after the first three innings of play, but as we’ve seen plenty of times this year, Arizona’s pitching would get a little roughed up.

Surrendering six runs through eight innings, luckily, the Wildcats were able to hang tough late in the game, holding ASU to zero runs over the final two innings to come away with the eventual win.

Trevor Long was the Wildcat that would come up huge in this one, holding ASU to zero runs on three hits over the final two innings, even picking up the eventual win to improve to 3-0 on the year.

Offensively, the Wildcats looked great! Getting some great offensive contributions from virtually everyone, Tanner O’Tremba had a big day as he went 2-5 from the plate with three RBIs.

However, it was Chase Davis who was the hero in this one. Tied 6-6 in the bottom of the 10th, the Wildcats’ sophomore outfield would walk off the Devils, blasting a deep solo shot to center field that coincidentally careened off the top of the Terry Francona Hitting Center.

Despite falling behind late, Arizona was able to rally to secure the 7-6 win over the Sun Devils. Now hopefully, the Wildcats can carry that momentum into the rest of the series.

Where does Arizona Baseball go from here?

With the win, Arizona improves to 27-12 (12-7) on the year and will return to action on Saturday evening when they take on ASU for game two of the three-game series. The Wildcats will turn to Chandler Murphy in game two, and hopefully, the young pitcher can get back on track!
