CANTON, OH – Steadily progressing along in the inaugural USFL season, former Wildcat Scooby Wright and the Birmingham Stallions have advanced to the USFL title.

The inaugural 2022 USFL season is steadily moving along, and with the playoffs now upon us, former Wildcat Scooby Wright and the Birmingham Stallions have continued their hot streak this season.

We are already familiar with his story by now, Scooby was drafted late in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, and spent just a handful of seasons in the league, before bouncing around in the now-defunct AAF and XFL leagues.

Well, since then, Scooby has gotten another chance at professional football, and so far, he has been on a terror, showcasing himself as a big-time playmaker that we grew accustomed to while he was in Tucson.

In 11 games with the Stallions, Wright has 52 tackles (24 solo), with three sacks, three tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and three pass deflections all en route to a 10-1 record.

This past Saturday, Scooby Wright and Stallions continued their winning ways as the team beat the New Orleans Breakers to advance to the USFL title.

Fresh off a win against the Tampa Bay Bandits the week prior, Wright and Co. returned to action to face off against the New Orleans Breakers on Saturday evening for the semifinal round of the USFL playoffs.

In front of a decent-sized crowd in Canton, OH, the Stallions looked like a strong group, trading scores for much of the game before sealing the game with a late touchdown.

The offense was led by quarterback J’Mar Smith who completed 17 of 27 passes for 190 yards with a touchdown. He also rushed for 48 yards and a touchdown on seven attempts.

Making plays at linebacker as he did at Arizona, Scooby would finish his evening with six tackles (one solo) en route to holding the Breakers to just 17 points and 389 yards, while also forcing two turnovers.

Because of Wright and the Stallions’ play, Birmingham was able to come away with the 31-17 win, advancing to the USFL Title where they will take on the Philadelphia Stars. Game time is currently set for 7:00 PM EST and will be televised on Fox on Sunday, July 3.
