Despite interviewing and missing out on the head coaching job for the Utah Jazz, Jason Terry will stay in Salt Lake City as the Jazz’s Assistant Coach.

Since leaving the University of Arizona Basketball staff, former Wildcat Jason Terry has been steadily rising in the coaching ranks at the professional level.

As we are all aware, Terry served as an assistant coach on Sean Miller’s staff from 2020-21. And after spending just one season in Tucson, Terry then moved on to bigger things, as he became head coach of the Grand Rapids Gold.

This past year, Terry helped guide the Denver Nuggets’ G-League affiliate to a 17-15 record, as the team narrowly missed the playoffs.

Well, trying his luck at potentially becoming a head coach at the next level, Terry interviewed for the head coaching vacancy with the Utah Jazz, but as we have now recently learned, he was not selected.

Instead, the Jazz went ahead and hired Will Hardy, the longtime assistant for the San Antonio Spurs (2015-21) and previous assistant for the Boston Celtics (2021-22).

Even though Terry is not the head coach of the Jazz, it appears he will still stay with the organization after all, as making news on Saturday afternoon, Hardy has brought on the former Wildcat guard as an assistant coach on his staff according to NBA Insider, Shams Charania.

Steadily climbing the ranks as a coach, Jason Terry is just one of many former Wildcats to be coaching in the NBA.

Now 44, Terry has had an illustrious career both as a collegiate player and professional. He won an NCAA Title in 1997, and after a storied career in Tucson, Jason played 20 seasons in the NBA for several teams, winning an NBA Title in 2011 with the Dallas Mavericks before retiring in 2018.

Well now, the former 10th overall pick in the 1999 NBA Draft has turned his focus to coaching, and so far, he seems to be making a path for himself as he is quickly climbing the coaching ranks.

At Zona Zealots, we are excited and happy for Jason as we will continue to follow his career beyond Arizona. Here is to hoping we see him as a head coach soon!
