We are well into the off-season for Arizona Baseball, and the Wildcats have added another piece for 2023 in Nevada transfer, Cam Walty.

The 2022 Arizona Baseball season ended over a month ago, and already the roster is taking form for 2023 as the Wildcats continue to deal with roster turnover.

So far, we have seen several changes with the team, as the Wildcats have seen their fair share of departures and transfers happen, but beyond that, the Wildcats did have a few selections in the 2022 MLB Draft as well.

But as quickly as they have lost talent, Chip Hale and Co. are working tirelessly to replace it. Their latest piece is another transfer pitcher in Cam Walty.

A former pitcher for Nevada, Walty made news on Wednesday morning as the Elk Grove, CA native committed to the Wildcats. And like former Butler pitcher Drew Dees who committed days ago as well, both should be immediately eligible to make an impact for the Cats.

Coming in as a 6-foot right-handed pitcher, Cam spent the previous two seasons in Reno with the Wolfpack compiling a 10-10 record in 26 starts with a 4.71 ERA in 147.0 innings pitched.

And despite being named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week twice last season, 2021 was his best season statistically as he appeared in 12 games (56.0 innings) for the Wolfpack, earning a 5-3 record with a 4.02 ERA.

Hoping to improve its pitching staff, by Arizona Baseball adding Cam Walty, the Wildcats should have a few valuable pieces for 2023.

As we all saw this past season, it was that the Wildcats’ pitching staff was pretty weak overall. The team posted a paltry 5.04 ERA, all while allowing opposing teams to hit .270 from the dish.

Naturally, Hale and the Wildcats are looking to improve in that area this off-season and quickly, and luckily, they appear to be well on their way as they have added yet another arm to this group.

Interestingly enough, Walty isn’t necessarily a new face, as the former Wolfpack pitched did face Arizona this year in Tucson.

Pitching a nine-inning shutout, Cam held the Wildcats to three hits and struck out five batters. Nevada went on to win that game 2-0.

Either way, heading into 2023, the Wildcats’ pitching should be a bit better, and the addition of Cam helps to solidify this group.
