With Fall Camp just around the corner for Arizona Football, Kyon Barrs is another player that has been added to an award watchlist.

It was just days ago that Arizona Football wide receiver Jacob Cowing was named to the Maxwell Award watchlist. And luckily for us, the preseason accolades are not stopping as Kyon Barrs is the latest Wildcat to be drawing early praise.

Making news via social media on Monday afternoon, Barrs became the third Wildcat to garner some preseason hype as Kyon was added to the Lott Trophy watchlist.

According to the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, “the IMPACT award is awarded annually to individuals who demonstrate excellence in the field of athletics and recognizes college football’s Defensive Player of the Year who best exemplifies the IMPACT acronym: Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.”

Returning to Arizona Football for his sophomore season, Kyon Barrs should be primed for a potentially big season.

A former standout at Murrieta Mesa High School that came to Tucson in 2019 after being lightly recruited out of high school.

In three seasons, Kyon earned three varsity letters in football where he total 180 tackles with 15.5 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks.

Well, now Barrs is returning to Arizona for his sophomore season, and the Southern California native should be in a position to make an even bigger impact along the Wildcats’ defensive line.

Coming off of a respectable 2021 season, Kyon was one of Arizona’s better defensive players as he finished his season with 33 tackles (14 solo), eight tackles for a loss, and five sacks.

That kind of production will surely be welcomed in 2022 if Barrs can replicate that, which is why he is drawing some early preseason praise with regards to the Lott Trophy Award Watchlist.

At Zona Zealots, we are excited about the fast approaching 2022 season, and cannot wait to see Kyon’s impact with the Wildcats this season! Here’s a small preview of the Wildcats’ defensive lineman.
