Arizona’s Kyon Barrs lands on another Preseason Watchlist
As Fall Camp quickly approaches for the Wildcats, Arizona Football’s Kyon Barrs has landed on another preseason award watchlist.
Just one day after landing on the preseason Lott “IMPACT” Trophy Watchlist, Arizona’s Kyon Barrs has been added to yet another watchlist for 2022.
Making news via social media on Tuesday afternoon, Barrs garnered more preseason hype as the Wildcats’ defensive lineman and Southern California native was added to the Outland Trophy watchlist.
Awarded to the best interior lineman in college football, “the Outland Trophy is the third-oldest major college football award” according to the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA).
The last Wildcat to win the Outland Trophy was Rob Waldrop during the 1993 season.
And returning to Arizona for his sophomore season, Kyon Barrs should be primed for a potentially big year as he continues to draw preseason praise.
Since bursting onto the scene with the Wildcats in 2019, the former Murrieta Mesa High School standout has been steadily improving every year.
In his freshman season with the Cats, Barrs finished the year with 13 total tackles (11 solo) in eight games played. Kyon then followed that up by registering 17 tackles (7 solo) during the condensed 2020 season due to Covid.
However, 2021 was his best yet as Kyon became one of Arizona’s better defensive players en route to registering 33 tackles (14 solo), eight tackles for a loss, and five sacks in 10 games.
Barrs became a Second-Team selection in the Pac-12 last season, and in 2022, he is projected to be one of Arizona’s starting defensive linemen this fall.
If he can stay healthy, big things could be on the horizon for Barrs as he continues to draw preseason praise.
At Zona Zealots, we are excited about the fast approaching 2022 season, and cannot wait to see Kyon’s impact with the Wildcats this season! We know he can continue to develop into a special player!
