Former Wildcat Khalil Tate signs with CFL’s Toronto Argonauts
Professional football is not over for former Wildcat Khalil Tate, as the former Arizona Football quarterback is heading to the Canadian Football League.
Since leaving Arizona, former Wildcat Khalil Tate has been trying to find a permanent home with a professional football team.
First, it was the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020 as a free agent. Tate then tried to make the transition to wide receiver; however, as Covid began running rampant, his opportunity diminished as teams limited their roster size.
He would try again this past year, but as we all saw, that would not come to fruition as Tate was released by the team right before the Summer.
Well, fast forward to now, and Tate is getting yet another opportunity at professional football, this time it is in Canada.
Making news via social media, the Toronto Argonauts signed the former Arizona quarterback this week, marking Tate’s second stint in the CFL.
Khalil did previously sign with the Edmonton Elks back in January; however, Tate never made an appearance with the team.
Becoming yet another Wildcat to join the ranks in Canada, Khalil Tate will get an opportunity to play quarterback for the Argonauts.
Replacing quarterback Austin Simmons who has recently retired, Tate should come in as a backup McLeod Bethel-Thompson who is the current starter for the Argonauts.
Tate will team up with former Wildcat Shaq Richardson in Canada, who is also on the Argonauts. Meanwhile, former Wildcat Ka’Deem Carey continues to make a name for himself with the Calgary Stampeders.
Toronto currently sits in first place in the CFL East Division with a 3-2 record with 13 games left on their schedule.
For Tate, he gets yet another opportunity at professional football, and this time he will hopefully be able to showcase his superior athleticism and skills that once made him one of the most exciting college football players.
