FLAGSTAFF, AZ – Ramping up to start the 2022 season, Arizona Soccer came away with the narrow, 1-0 win over Northern Arizona in an Exhibition Match.

Arizona Soccer is back in action! Just one year removed from its first season under head coach Becca Moros, the Wildcats are ramping things up just ahead of the 2022 season.

Heading into the year, the Wildcats are trying to distance themselves from a rather disappointing 5-13 finish where they were outscored 34-15 en route to finishing in last place in the Pac-12.

If Arizona hopes to turn things around, they are going to have to get ready quickly with the 2022 season just around the corner.

However, first up was a tune-up match against in-state foe, Northern Arizona. Returning to action on Sunday afternoon in Flagstaff, the Wildcats took on the Lumberjacks for an exhibition match.

Playing 21 of its players, Arizona Soccer was able to secure the 1-0 victory, thanks to a second-half goal against the Lumberjacks.

From the start, this one would be competitive! Arizona would control the ball for much of the first half as they were able to get off four shots against the Lumberjacks goaltender.

Unfortunately, all those attempts would be unsuccessful as the Wildcats entered halftime tied at 0-0 with the Lumberjacks.

Looking for some kind of spark in the second half, luckily, it wouldn’t take long for the Wildcats to find the back of the net when freshman midfielder Samantha Baytosh would sneak one past the NAU goalie at the 46-minute mark to make it 1-0.

While the win does not count, it does give the Wildcats some much-needed experience, especially for a roster that features nine freshmen.

Arizona will have one more exhibition match against San Diego State on Wednesday before officially starting its season on Thursday, August 18 against Iowa State.
