Completing her first season with the Phoenix Mercury, former Wildcat Sam Thomas has been named to the WNBA’s AP All-Rookie Team.

Sam Thomas has barely been in the WNBA for a year, and already the former Wildcat is making a sizable impact.

Several months after signing with Phoenix Mercury, the do-it-all Wildcat guard was named to the AP WNBA All-Rookie team on Tuesday afternoon.

Joining fellow Wildcat Aari McDonald who was named to the All-Rookie Team last year, Sam is the second Wildcat to earn the honor in as many years.

Despite playing in limited action with the Mercury this season, Sam Thomas’ presence was still felt with the team, as she impacts the game in so many ways.

Averaging roughly just 4.9 minutes per game, Thomas finished the regular season by averaging 0.4 points, 0.2 rebounds, 0.3 assists, and 0.3 steals per game. However, perhaps the best for Thomas may be soon coming.

In Phoenix’s regular-season finale against the Chicago Sky, Thomas scored a career-high six points and dished one assist in 12 minutes played. Unfortunately, the Mercury went on to lose by an 82-67 final.

Helping her team to a 15-21 record on the regular season, luckily for Thomas and Co., the basketball action won’t stop there either! Making news just days ago, the Mercury qualified for the WNBA Playoffs as the No. 8 seed.

Playoff action will begin on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m as they face the top-seeded Las Vegas Aces in a best-of-three series. The first two games will be played in Las Vegas, and should the series go to three games, the final game will be played in Phoenix.

Hopefully, Thomas and the Mercury can find their groove during the playoffs!
