TUCSON, AZ – Officially kicking off the 2022 season against Iowa State, Arizona Soccer (1-0) rallied to come away with the narrow, 2-1 win over the Cyclones.

The 2022 Arizona Soccer season is finally here! Just one year removed from their first season under head coach Becca Moros.

Coming into the season, the Wildcats are hoping to turn things around especially compared to the disappointing 2021 season they endured last year. For those that don’t recall, the Wildcats finished 5-13 all while being outscored 34-15.

Returning to action on Friday evening with a home match against the Iowa State Cyclones, the Wildcats officially kicked off the start of the 2022 regular season.

It was a slow start for Arizona Soccer, and despite falling behind 1-0, the Wildcats were able to rally to secure the 2-1 victory over Iowa State.

From the start, this one would be a bit of a back-and-forth match! Arizona would control the ball for much of the first half as they were able to get off seven shots against the Cyclones’ goaltender.

Unfortunately, all those attempts would be unsuccessful as the Wildcats entered halftime tied at 0-0 with Iowa State.

Looking for some kind of spark in the second half, unfortunately, the Cyclones would strike first in this one, scoring at the 47th minute when Jasmine Coleman snuck one past the Wildcats’ keeper.

Luckily for us, the Wildcats wouldn’t go quietly in this one. Responding with a rally of their own, Arizona would finally get on the board just before the 81st minute when Quincy Bonds would put one past the goalie on a beautiful corner kick assist from Samantha Baytosh to make it 1-1.

Nearly four minutes later, the Wildcats would score again! This time it would be an errant own goal of an Arizona corner kick that sneak past the ISU goalie.

Holding on to secure the 2-1, the Wildcats begin the regular season 1-0 and will return to action Sunday when they take on Texas Tech at home.
