Arizona Football: Anthony Simpson earns the No. 1 jersey
The 2022 Arizona Football season is nearly here, and while the Wildcats kick-off in less than two weeks, Anthony Simpson earned the No. 1 jersey.
We are getting closer and closer to the start of the Arizona Football season, and as the Wildcats prepare for their big-time match-up against San Diego State in San Diego in roughly a week, a few more roster details are now settled.
As you may recall, head coach Jedd Fisch and the Wildcats held a “tryout” for the No. 1 jersey last year, virtually leaving it to the team to have two standout players to earn the honor. And just like last season, the No. 1 jersey was up for grabs again.
Well, making news on Wednesday, the Wildcats announced that Anthony Simpson has earned the jersey on offense.
Joining fellow Wildcat Jalen Harris, sophomore wide receiver Anthony Simpson is showing his value for Arizona Football.
All fall camp, beyond all the other major storylines dominating the headlines for Arizona Football, was who would get the other, coveted No. 1 jersey.
Leading to a strong battle in camp, there were plenty of strong contenders; however, as we all Simpson was the one to stand out the most on offense.
A former standout at Bloomfield High School in Connecticut, Anthony was a late surprise for the Wildcats, committing to Arizona in the recruiting class of 2021.
Simpson saw limited snaps with the Cats last season, appearing in four games as he accumulated 46 yards on four receptions with another seven yards rushing on one carry.
After a successful fall camp, Anthony earned the No. 1 jersey for the 2022 season, and because of his hard work, he could be primed for a potentially big season!
Either way, things are heating up and we are excited about the fast-approaching football season.
