We are less than a week away from the 2022 season and Arizona Football has received a commitment from Hamilton Safety Genesis Smith for 2023.

Things are progressing very quickly in Tucson, and with the 2022 season just around the corner, Jedd Fisch and Arizona Football have now secured their 19th commitment in the recruiting class of 2023.

Making news on Saturday evening, the Wildcats officially added 2023 three-star Chandler Hamilton safety, Genesis Smith.

Announcing his commitment via social media, Genesis picked the Wildcats despite receiving offers from Army, Air Force, Colorado State, San Diego State, and Rice among several others.

A standout from the talented Hamilton High School from just up the road in Chandler, AZ, Genesis comes to Tucson as an underrated three-star rated recruit in the class.

Overall, he is considered to be the No. 94 ranked safety in the class of 2023, as well as the No. 15 ranked player from the state of Arizona according to 247Sports’ scouting services.

Standing a lengthy 6-feet-2-inches and weighing 188 pounds, Genesis Smith is another solid defensive addition for Arizona Football.

Coming into the off-season, it has been clear that the Wildcats were wanting to prioritize recruiting defense on the recruiting trail, and preferably in the secondary as the talent and depth have not been there for the past several seasons.

So far in the recruiting class of 2023, Fisch and Co. have not disappointed, as the class is mostly comprised of defensive recruits, Genesis is just the latest that has been added to a quickly growing list.

Heading into his senior season, Genesis is coming off of a strong junior campaign at Hamilton High School in which he totaled 40 tackles (22 solo), with1.0 tackles for loss, four interceptions, and five pass breakups.

Genesis is a bit of an under-the-radar recruit, but overall, he is a long, athletic, and physical player that possesses a great motor and solid instincts as a safety. He reads and surveys the field well, and his size should allow him to challenge for early playing time once he gets to Tucson.

With continued coaching and development, Genesis could turn into a solid player, but overall, this kid oozes talent and potential in his film!
