Arizona’s Henri Veesaar meets with media, has bright future ahead
Finally meeting with the media, Arizona Basketball big man Henri Veesaar sat down to chat about coming to Arizona, the 2022-23 season, etc.
The 2022-23 Arizona Basketball season is just around the corner, and while excitement builds for fans, so does their interest in the Wildcats’ overhauled roster, particularly 2022 commit, Henri Veesaar.
Hailing from Estonia, Veesaar was a late addition to the class and was more of a secret recruit for Tommy Lloyd and the Wildcats.
Standing a towering 7 feet and weighing 200 pounds, Veesaar comes to Tucson after playing for the talented Real Madrid in Spain where he averaged 10.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game in 24 games played in the Liga EBA.
Well on Wednesday, Henri finally met with the media where he spoke at length about his decision in coming to Arizona, playing for Coach Lloyd and the Wildcats, as well as his basketball future.
And coming in, it was made clear to Henri why the Wildcats wanted him, “Tommy likes his bigs or like mobile, know how to play, read the game, make decisions with the ball fast,” he said. “I think I am a great fit for that.”
And while he drew some pro interest before committing to Arizona, Henri still felt he needed more time to prepare. “I think for a young player like me, especially with my body build, I need time to develop,” he said. “It’s easier to play in college basketball than go pro right now.”
Likely to see a sizable role with Arizona Basketball this season, Henri Veesaar could be one of the Wildcats’ top freshmen.
Heading into the 2022-23 season, while expectations for Henri may be somewhat high, he has the benefit of playing behind Oumar Ballo and Azuolas Tubelis, meanwhile learning from those who have done it before him.
“I think it’s good for me like there was a chance like Zu was going to go to the league this season, but if he’s gonna stay, it’s great for me to learn every day in practice with him,” he said. “It’s his third year here, so he basically knows what’s gonna happen, he’s ready for all the season what he has to do.”
As for Henri, he’s just ready to showcase to fans what he can do. Likening his game to Karl Anthony-Towns (KAT), Henri could have a bright future in front of him!
“I really like his game, especially offensively,” Henri said. “[He] is so good at every aspect of the game.”
