Jayden de Laura & Offense must keep up with high-powered MSU
Fresh off a statement win versus San Diego State, Arizona Football and Jayden de Laura prepare for an even tougher matchup against Mississippi State.
The 2022 Arizona Football is underway as we are in the full swing of things, and already, the Wildcats are off to a promising start.
Fresh off of a 38-20 win, the main architect in the Wildcats’ dominant victory this weekend was the play of the offense, and in particular Jayden de Laura.
A former standout at Washington State, the reigning Pac-12 Offensive Freshman Player of the Year came to Tucson and has completely transformed this offense.
Aside from the Wildcats needing additional talent last season, it is now clear how important having a competent quarterback and a few talented receivers is.
So far this season, de Laura has been exactly what the Wildcats needed. In his 22-35, 299-yard, and four touchdown performance against the Aztecs, Jayden brought poise, he brought confidence, and he played with a bit of an edge.
However, against an even better opponent in Mississippi State, Jayden de Laura and the Arizona Football offense will have to produce at a high level.
Yes, the week one game against San Diego State showed us a lot of things about Arizona, and it was refreshing to see competent football being played for the first time in a few years. But week two will give fans a real eye test as to what group we truly have.
Aside from the defense needing to slow down Will Rogers and the Bulldogs’ high-powered offense, the Wildcat offense will have a tough challenge on its hands as they best try to keep up with Mike Leach and Mississippi State.
Luckily, de Laura knows a thing or two about Leach and the Air Raid offense. Interestingly enough, before joining Arizona, de Laura was recruited by Leach and Washington State out of the high-profiled St. Louis High School in Honolulu, HI.
And ahead of their reunion on Saturday, this is what Leach had to say about Jayden “He’s a very competitive guy and a good player. He’s got quick feet. The ball comes off his hand quickly, and he’s accurate. He’s definitely a good player.”
Come Saturday, the matchup against the Bulldogs will provide a tough challenge for de Laura and the Wildcats, and we will see how they all respond.
