Arizona Softball: A Look at new Personnel and Fall Ball Games Schedule
By Kevin Barney
Action is picking up for Arizona Softball as the Wildcats begin preparing for the 2023 season, welcoming new personnel, and scheduling their Fall Ball games.
Arizona Softball, led by second-year head coach Caitlin Lowe, has begun assembling her 2023 team as fall ball, or as I like to call it fall camp, is starting.
The Wildcats lost two superstars in catcher Sharlize Palacios and centerfielder Janelle Meono in the off-season to the transfer portal. Both were acquired by Pac-12 foe and long-time rival, UCLA.
Luckily, Arizona has added nine new personnel to its roster for 2023. They are as follows:
- Kaiah Altmeyer, freshman, utility, San Diego, CA
- Ali Ashner, junior, outfield, Phoenix, AZ
- Ali Blanchard, senior, pitcher, Lincoln, RI
- Brianna Hardy, senior, pitcher, Sierra Vista, AZ
- Taylor Biehl, freshman, infield, Folsom, CA
- Dakota Kennedy, freshman, outfield, Sacramento, CA
- Sydney Somerndike, freshman, pitcher, Villa Park, CA
- Logan Cole, freshman, infield, Tucson, AZ
- Olivia Dinardo, freshman, catcher/first base, San Mateo, CA
Here are the upcoming seven fall games for the Wildcats at Mike Candrea Field at Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium:
Thursday, October 20th (Time TBD)
vs Pima Community College
Thursday, October 27th (Time TBD)
vs South Mountain Community College and
Central Arizona Community College
Friday, November 4th (Time TBD)
vs Phoenix Community College and
Eastern Community College
Saturday, Nov 5th (Time TBD)
vs Arizona Western Community College and
Chandler-Gilbert Community College
*Note: The schedule is subject to change/updates. Also, fall games are usually free admission for anyone wishing to attend.
Arizona Softball fans have much to look forward to with excitement in 2023, and it will be interesting to watch how nine new players integrate and develop into this legendary program.
Newcomers will look to juniors like Devyn Netz, Jasmine Perezchica, and Carlie Scupin to show them the Arizona way.
The Wildcats are preparing for the 2023 season after going 39-22 in 2022 and making their 25th appearance in the Women’s College World Series and a third consecutive trip to Oklahoma City. The Wildcats eventually lost to the runner-up, the Texas Longhorns 5-2, in their final game of 2022 in Oklahoma City after going undefeated in Regionals and Super Regionals.
