Arizona’s Hunter Echols earns Pac-12 Co-DL of the week honors
Following their huge win over North Dakota State, Hunter Echols earned Pac-12 Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week honors for Arizona Football.
The 2022 Arizona Football season is off and rolling and as the Wildcats earned the thrilling win over FCS powerhouse North Dakota State this past weekend, arguably no one had a more impressive game for the Wildcats than Hunter Echols.
Even though the defense struggled at times, they were led by the strong play from former USC defensive lineman and current Wildcat star, Echols.
On Monday afternoon, the Pac-12 Conference Player of the Week honors were announced and on the list from Arizona was Hunter Echols.
Presented by Nextiva, Arizona saw its second week in which they had a player on the performance awards list after their impressive win over the Bison.
Echols came to Tucson with a great opportunity to lead this defense, and so far he hasn’t disappointed. In three games, the former Trojan has 19 tackles (10 solo), 4.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
Against the Bison, Echols arguably had his best game yet. Totaling eight tackles (four solo), Echols also had a sack, two tackles for loss, and forced a fumble which was perhaps the biggest momentum shift in that game. Arizona went on to win 31-28!
Big things are brewing in Tucson and second-year head coach Jedd Fisch Lloyd is a big reason for that. He has the Wildcats playing great football in the early part of the season, and while this team has a long way to go, the future is bright.
Echols and the Wildcats will return to action on Saturday when they take on Cal (2-1) to open Pac-12 play. Arizona will have a challenge on its hands as they travel to Berkeley as they take on the Golden Bears.
