Just as he was getting started this season, Arizona’s Rayshon Luke may be done for a while as the freshman running back underwent surgery.

Coming into this season, there was a lot of hype surrounding freshman running back Rayshon Luke. The two-sport star was a standout football player at the talented St. John Bosco High School in Southern California and was a highly-touted recruit as well.

With offers from Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Louisville, and several others, surprisingly, it was the Wildcats in the end who were able to bring him.

Since coming to Tucson, “Speedy” as he is so aptly named has shown a lot of promise. Through three games, Luke has six carries for 44 yards for an average of 7.3 yards per rush.

Unfortunately, just as his season was getting started, things are now likely over for Luke in 2022.

Making news on Thursday was that Rayshon Luke may miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery.

Following the Wildcats’ win over North Dakota State on Saturday evening, Luke could be seen on the sideline in a boot and crutches after suffering an apparent leg injury in that game.

Well, as it has now been confirmed, that injury was a bit more serious than initially thought as Luke has undergone surgery.

While the extent of the injury is not fully known at this time, the expectation is that Luke will be out for quite a while.

While the loss is a major one for the Wildcats, luckily, Arizona has tremendous depth at running back. Against Cal, look for Drake Anderson, Jalen John, and possibly Stevie Rocker, Jr. to get some reps.

Hopefully, Arizona can still get solid production at running back even with the speedster Luke out!
