2023 Edge Rusher Nicholas Fernandez picks Arizona Football
With the 2022 season drawing to a close for Arizona Football, the Wildcats have received a commitment from 2023 Edge Rusher, Nicholas Fernandez.
And just like that, the 2022 Arizona Football season is drawing to a close and Jedd Fisch and the Wildcats have secured yet another commitment in the recruiting class of 2023.
Making news on Wednesday afternoon, the Wildcats officially added 2023 three-star Edge Rusher, Nicholas Fernandez.
Announcing his commitment via social media, Fernandez picked the Wildcats despite receiving offers from Boise State, Washington State, Air Force, Colorado State, Fresno State, and Army among several others.
A standout athlete from the talented San Pedro High School in San Pedro, CA, Nicholas comes to Tucson as an underrated three-star rated recruit in the class.
Overall, he is considered to be the No. 79 ranked athlete in the class of 2023, Nicholas is also considered to be the No. 97 ranked player from the talent-rich state of California according to 247Sports’ scouting services.
Standing a lengthy 6-feet-4-inches and weighing a stout 265 pounds, Nicholas Fernandez adds some much-needed size and depth for Arizona Football.
Heading into the off-season, it is clear that the Wildcats need to prioritize recruiting on defense, look no further than the Cats having the worst-ranked defense among Power Five teams.
And luckily for us, so far in the recruiting class of 2023, Fisch and Co. have not disappointed, as the class is mostly comprised of defensive recruits. Nicholas is just the latest that has been added to a quickly growing list.
Sporting a 10-0 record with the Pirates this season, Fernandez is putting together a solid senior season! Playing both offense and defense, Nicholas has 309 yards receiving and five touchdowns on 25 receptions, while also totaling 28 tackles (18 solo), with 4.0 tackles for loss, 4.0 sacks, three pass deflections, a fumble recovery, and two blocked punts.
Nicholas is a bit of an under-the-radar recruit, but overall, he is a long, athletic, and physical player that possesses a great motor and solid instincts as an edge rusher. He reads and dissects plays well, and he uses his size and length well on defense.
With continued coaching, size, and development, Nicholas could turn into a solid player along the defensive line, and the kid oozes talent and potential on film!
