No. 17 Arizona Basketball returns to action against Southern
Fresh off their thumping of Nicholls on Monday evening, No. 17 Arizona Basketball (1-0), returns to action to take on Southern (0-1).
The 2022-23 Arizona Basketball season is underway, and already the Wildcats are 1-0 in year two of the Tommy Lloyd era.
Fresh off of a dominant win over Nicholls just days ago, the Wildcats find themselves in a tougher position entering Friday’s action as Arizona takes on a more formidable opponent!
Entering as double-digit favorites, once again, the Wildcats are considered the better team, and rightfully so as Arizona has the superior size, length, and athleticism.
However, in the world of college athletics, that doesn’t mean as much as any team can win on any given night, so Arizona will need to be ready from the tip!
With the 2022-23 basketball season rolling right along, we should be in store for yet another exciting game on Friday evening1
Getting to Know the details with Arizona Basketball’s matchup against the Southern Jaguars.

2021-22 Record: Souther finished the year with a very respectable 17-14 (12-6) record. The Jaguars ended the year with a loss to rival Grambling State in the first round of the SWAC Conference Tournament.
Head Coach: Sean Woods enters his fifth season at Southern and so far, he is sporting a 49–66 (39–29) record with the Jaguars. However, Woods has been around a while, having made previous coaching stops at Mississippi Valley State, Morehead State, and now Southern. Overall, he is 176–216 (39–29) as a head coach.

Overall Series Record: 1-0 Arizona. Having met just once prior in their collective history, the Wildcats own the head-to-head series lead with their lone win coming in 2013 when Arizona beat Southern 69-43 at home.
Last Meeting vs. Arizona: The last time these two teams met was in 2013 when Arizona came away with a 69-43 win in Tucson.
My Prediction: Arizona 95 Southern 71 – Don’t be surprised if Souther makes this a bit of a game. The Jaguars have some talent and are well-coached, so I do see them competing. However, I see Arizona’s size and athleticism being the difference maker in this one as the Wildcats cruise to the dominant win!
