With the 2022-23 Arizona Basketball season well underway, Wildcat forward Azuolas Tubelis has been added to the midseason Wooden Award watch list.

Arizona forward Azuolas Tubelis has been having a heck of a junior season with the Wildcats this year as he has not only cemented himself as the best player on the Wildcats, but also one of the best players in college basketball.

And making news via social media on Wednesday afternoon, Zu was officially added to the midseason Wooden Award watch list.

For those that don’t know, the John R. Wooden Award is an award that is given annually to the most outstanding men’s and women’s college basketball players and given Tubelis’ dominance this year, naturally, he has been added to the midseason award watch list.

Since the award’s inception, Sean Elliott (1989) is the only Wildcat to win the award.

Currently just one of 25 players on the midseason watch list, Azuolas Tubelis is one of the front-runners for the Wooden Award.

A native of Vilnius, Lithuania, Azuolas came to Arizona as a highly-touted international prospect in the class of 2020, and so far he has had a heck of a collegiate career in Tucson.

Playing alongside some talented players at Arizona, Tubelis has played in 76 games with the Wildcats (69 starts) and is averaging 14.4 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game for his career.

So far this season, Zu is having his best year as a Wildcat as he is currently averaging 20.1 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.

His presence helps the Wildcats immensely, and while his competition for winning the Wooden Award is stiff, it is great seeing him draw some well-earned praise and we are excited for him!
