Finalizing its staff for the 2023 season, Arizona Football has hired former Washington State cornerback coach, John Richardson.

The 2023 Arizona Football season may still be several months away, but Jedd Fisch and the Wildcats are staying busy as they are continuing to add pieces to their roster and staff.

And making news on Monday, the Wildcats finally announced its next cornerback coach, John Richardson.

A former defensive back coach with Washington State, Richardson comes to Tucson, officially replacing, DeWayne Walker who left the program just weeks ago.

Joining Arizona’s staff, the hire of John Richardson is a solid hire for Arizona Football as the Wildcats bring in a skilled recruiter and coach.

If this off-season has proven anything, it is that Arizona was needing to address this defense. And so far Coach Fisch has seemingly done well to bring in several recruits to raise the level of talent, as well as add to the defensive.

By bringing in Richardson, he will be a well-respected coach on the Wildcats’ staff, and his addition should give Arizona an edge in recruiting, plus, he did well while at Wazzu.

Here’s the resume of the Wildcats’ new positional coach!

John Richardson

Previous Position: Defensive Back Coach at Stanford
Alma Mater: North Dakota State

Resume:

  • North Dakota State – 2007-08
  • North Dakota State (Student Assistant) – 2009-10
  • North Dakota State (Graduate Assistant) – 2011
  • North Dakota State (Defensive Assistant) – 2012-13
  • Wyoming (Cornerbacks Coach) – 2015-19
  • Washington State (Recruiting Coordinator) – 2020
  • Washington State (Assistant Head Coach / Cornerbacks / Recruiting Coordinator) – 2021

John did not coach in 2022 after being let go at Washington State for not complying with the state’s COVID vaccine mandate.

Overall, this seems like a solid hire for the Wildcats, and we are excited to see coach Richardson joining the Wildcats in Tucson!
