TUCSON, AZ – Looking for the weekend sweep, No. 18 Arizona Women’s Basketball (21-6, 11-5) walloped No. 21 Colorado (21-6, 12-4), beating the Buffaloes 61-42.

Resuming Pac-12 action inside the friendly confines of McKale Center on Sunday afternoon, No. 18 Arizona Women’s Basketball was back in action, looking to avenge its previous loss to No. 21 Colorado, as well as earn the weekend sweep.

Taking on a talented Colorado team, the Wildcats were going to have another significant challenge in this one, especially as the Buffaloes beat the Wildcats previously. And luckily, our Wildcats were up to the task!

Despite shooting a combined 42.9 percent from the field, including 4-18 (22.2 percent) from three, Arizona came away with the dominant, 61-42 win!

Arizona’s Shaina Pellington had another terrific game, scoring a game-high 19 points on 8-13 shooting from the field, meanwhile, Esmery Martinez added with 14 points and seven rebounds on 6-9 shooting!

No. 18 Arizona Women’s Basketball jumped out to the early lead and didn’t look back, running away with the dominant, 19-point win over the Buffaloes.

Looking to avenge its previous loss to Colorado and extends its winning streak to three games, Arizona returned to action after knocking off No. 4 Utah on Friday evening.

And from the tip, the Wildcats were up to the challenge! Despite Colorado jumping out to an early, 9-5 lead, Arizona was able to respond in a big way, asserting its dominance as it closed the first quarter on a 12-1 run to lead 17-10.

Arizona continued that momentum into the second quarter as the Wildcats’ defense tightened its clamps and held Colorado to just 10 points as Arizona led 31-20 at halftime.

Not letting up, Arizona once again found its offensive rhythm in the second half as the Wildcats led by as many as 16 before ending the third quarter on a 7-2 run to lead 48-27 heading into the final quarter.

Continuing to assert its dominance, Colorado would claw back a bit, opening the fourth quarter on a 10-2 run to cut Arizona’s lead to 49-37. But luckily, that would be as close as they would get in this one as Arizona closed things out, eventually coming away with a convincing, 61-42 win!

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 21-6 (11-5) on the season and will resume basketball action on Thursday when they travel to Eugene to take on Oregon! The Wildcats will follow up that game with a showdown against Oregon State on Saturday in Corvallis to close out the regular season. Tip-off against the Ducks is set for 8:00 PM MST on Thursday!
