Following their shocking loss to rival Arizona State at home, a lack of focus continues to plague Arizona Basketball this season.

We are in year two of the Tommy Lloyd era in Tucson, and overall things have been pretty damn good. Arizona Basketball is 57-9 and is on the verge of making its second-straight NCAA Tournament under Lloyd.

And so far this season, the Wildcats continue to be one of the best offensive teams in the country. as they are averaging 83.3 points per game.

On the flip side of that, unfortunately, the defense continues to remain inconsistent. Despite the strong stretch after their loss to Oregon over a month ago, the Wildcats are seemingly reverting to some bad habits.

And if Arizona Basketball hopes to make a splash this March, the Wildcats will need a continued focused, and consistent effort.

Granted, we are just in year two of the Lloyd era, so that means we have a young college coach that continues to learn and deal with the intricacies of being a head coach.

But one of the few problems plaguing the Wildcats this season seems to be focus and consistency, or the lack thereof.

Let me be clear, losing isn’t the issue as losses happen in college basketball; however, the thing concerning me and fans alike is how the Wildcats seem to be losing this season.

In their five losses, Arizona did not only lose to an inferior opponent, but it was the apparent lack of interest in playing and competing in those said games.

Instead of playing like a Top 10 team that is playing for bigger things in the coming weeks, Arizona looked like a team going through the motions, disinterested in playing defense.

Following their shocking loss to the Sun Devils this past weekend, Wildcat senior Cedric Henderson, Jr. said “we were terrible in our execution”.

Coach Lloyd wasn’t exactly complimentary of Azuolas Tubelis either following the team’s loss.

Arizona has bigger things to play for over the next couple of weeks, but for a program that hasn’t won a championship since VHS’ were in circulation, and hasn’t been to Final Four since 2001, then this team needs to dig deep and play to their potential, otherwise, it is going to be another empty March.
