TUCSON, AZ – Returning to action for a mid-week tilt against CSU Bakersfield, No. 16 Arizona Softball (11-5) run-ruled the visiting Roadrunners by a 9-1 final.

Finally returning to the friendly confines of Hillenbrand Stadium in Tucson, No. 16 Arizona Softball was back in action as the Wildcats looked to continue their winning ways.

Once again turning to Sydney Somerndike who got the start on the bump for the Wildcats, the freshman hurler got another opportunity to showcase herself on Wednesday afternoon as she took on the visiting Roadrunners.

Sydney would pitch the complete-game victory, and looked impressive from start to finish! Pitching five spectacular innings, Sydney surrendered just one run on two hits, holding the while striking five batters as she picked up the win to improve to 3-1 on the season!

Arizona’s bats were just as dominant as they came alive early in this one, plating nine runs on four hits as several Wildcats got in on the offensive action to come away with the dominant, 9-1 win!

Scoring early and often, a big fourth inning by Arizona Softball paced the Wildcats to the dominant victory over CSU Bakersfield!

Tied 0-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning, Arizona was the first to strike in this one as the Wildcats plated two runs thanks to some timely hitting to make it 2-0, Cats.

However, the following inning is where the Wildcats exploded offensively, adding seven runs as they took advantage of some mistakes made by the Roadrunners. As a result, Arizona was able to score at will and was largely propelled by Allie Skaggs’ grand slam that made it 7-0.

Arizona would tack on two more runs in the same inning when a few, well-timed hits made it 9-0 in favor Cats.

Unfortunately, CSU Bakersfield would get one run back in the fifth inning, but it was too little too late as Arizona came away with the dominant, 9-1 win!

Where does Arizona Softball go from here?

With the win, Arizona improves to 11-5 on the year and will return to action on Friday when they take on Weber State for the Hillenbrand Invitational. First pitch is set for 4:00 PM MST!

The Wildcats will then follow that game up with a matchup against Nebraska on Saturday afternoon!
