With Arizona Basketball preparing for the 2023 NCAA Tournament, we take an early look at the Wildcats’ opponent, the Princeton Tigers.

Fresh off a Pac-12 Tournament Championship win over UCLA, Arizona Basketball turns its eyes on the NCAA Tournament and a looming matchup against the Princeton Tigers.

Coming in, the Wildcats are the considerable favorites as the No. 2 seed; however, that doesn’t mean Arizona can overlook this one, especially as Princeton is a well-coached and disciplined team.

Overall, the Tigers should present a significant challenge, and their unique brand of basketball should give the Wildcats some fits. But if Arizona is going to win this one, they are going to need a focused and intentional effort here!

Early Preview of the Princeton Tigers

Team: Princeton Tigers

Head Coach: Mitch Henderson is currently in his 11th season with the Tigers, having compiled a 206–116 (106–47) record overall as head coach with six postseason appearances, including two in the NCAA Tournament.

Overall, Mitch has been around the game of basketball for quite some time, having previously been a player at Princeton (1994-98) before serving as an assistant at Northwestern from 2000-11, before being named head coach of the Tigers in 2011.

2022-23 Record: Princeton is currently 21-9 (10-4) on the year and is a well-coached and disciplined team. Overall, the Tigers play a unique brand of basketball and should present a significant challenge for the Wildcats after winning the 2023 Ivy League Tournament.

Head-to-head Series: Despite their extensive and illustrious basketball history, both programs have only met once previously with the Wildcats owning the head-to-head series lead over the Tigers at 1-0.

Arizona won their previous matchup against Princeton in 1985 with the Wildcats coming away with the 54-41 in Tucson.

Summary:

In 2022-23, Princeton has proven to be a great team in College Basketball, and with a current 21-9 (10-4) record, the Tigers have earned the 15th seed in the South Region of the NCAA Tournament.
