COLLEGE PARK, MD – Fresh off a win over West Virginia, Arizona Women’s Basketball (22-10, 11-7) fell to host Maryland 77-64 in the Second Round.

Returning to action after beating West Virginia to begin the NCAA Tournament, Arizona Women’s Basketball was looking to pick up the upset against host Maryland in the Round of 32.

Coming in, the Wildcats were heavy underdogs, especially as the Terrapins had been playing well, and came off a huge win over Holy Cross in the first round.

Shooting just 28-64 from the field (43.8 percent) including 2-12 (16.7 percent) from three, the Wildcats were able to manage to put up 64 points in their 77-64 loss to the Terrapins.

Senior Cate Reese put up a team-high 19 points and grabbed four rebounds, meanwhile Shaina Pellington added with 13, and Paris Clark added with 11 points.

But unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as the Wildcats saw its 2022-23 season come to an end.

Despite leading at halftime, Arizona Women’s Basketball couldn’t hang on in the end, falling to Maryland.

Needing the energy from the tip, this one would start a bit flat for the Wildcats, especially as Arizona put up just eight points in the first quarter, and trailed 17-8.

Luckily for us, the Wildcats bounced back in a big way. Using a strong, second quarter, Arizona outscored Maryland 25-15 to lead 33-32 at halftime!

Hoping to continue its momentum and distance itself in the second half, unfortunately, the Wildcats’ lead wouldn’t last long as Maryland opened the half on a 9-0 run to lead 41-33.

Maryland would continue its dominance, outscoring Arizona 29-9 in the quarter to lead 61-42 after three.

Arizona would have a big fourth quarter, outscoring Maryland 22-16 in the final quarter; however, it wasn’t enough as the Wildcats ultimately by a 77-64 final.

With the loss, the Wildcats end their season with a 22-10 (11-7) record and will have a long off-season in Tucson before taking the hardwood again!
