With the 2023 MLB Season just around the corner, former Wildcat standout catcher Cesar Salazar has made the Houston Astros’ opening-day roster.

The start of the 2023 Major League Baseball season is just around the corner, and while several of our former Wildcats are preparing for the upcoming season, one of those former Cats is Arizona catcher Cesar Salazar.

A standout for the Wildcats from 2016-18, Salazar was best known for starting at catcher for the Wildcats as a true freshman in 2016 when Arizona reached the College World Series finals.

Well, after spending a few years in the Minor Leagues, Salazar is on the move!

Making news on Tuesday afternoon, it was announced that Cesar will be on the opening-day roster for the Houston Astros.

The seventh-round pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, former Wildcat Cesar Salazar has a bright future ahead of him!

Now 27, Cesar spent the past four seasons in the Astros’ minor-league system where he batted a career .253 from the plate with a .327 on-base percentage and 33 home runs in 922 minor-league at-bats.

Prior to being drafted 222nd overall by the Astros in 2018, Salazar was a career, .300 hitter with six home runs and 104 RBIs at Arizona. However, despite his dominance at the plate, Cesar was best known for being a fantastic, two-way player, particularly as a defender.

Fast-forward to now, and Salazar has put together a solid Spring Training hitting an impressive .286 from the dish with one home run and seven RBIs in 21 at-bats.

The 2023 season officially kicks off on Thursday for the Houston Astros, where Cesar and the defending World Series champion Astros, will take on the Chicago White Sox!
