Arizona Softball to hire LMU’s Christian Conrad as Pitching Coach

Following the departure of Taryne Mowatt-McKinney, Arizona Softball will reportedly hire LMU’s Christian Conrad as the next Pitching Coach. 

The 2023 Arizona Softball season saw several ups and downs, and just weeks after the official end of the season, the Wildcats have already begun making changes to its roster.

First, Arizona had announced that it parted ways with former Wildcat legend Taryne Mowatt-McKinney, who has served as an assistant on staff since 2017.

And for the past few weeks, head coach Caitlin Lowe and staff have been busy searching for a replacement.

Well, making news on Tuesday afternoon, it was reported by D1Softball, that Arizona will hire LMU’s Christian Conrad to become the next pitching coach of the Wildcats.

Joining Arizona Softball, the hire of Christian Conrad is certainly a big splash, and should hopefully help the Wildcats shore its pitching woes.

Coming into the off-season Coach Lowe understood the need for the Wildcats to make some drastic changes, and just weeks after seeing its 35-year postseason streak come to an end, Arizona is already having a busy off-season.

By bringing in Christian, he is a young and talented coach that has quickly risen in the coaching ranks!

First starting as an undergraduate assistant at Oregon in 2018, Christian then moved to Florida State in 2019, where he served under head coach Lonni Alameda as a pitcher & first base coach.

Seeing quick success with the Seminoles, Christian was then hired at Loyola Marymount in 2020 as the team’s pitching coach where he coached the back-to-back WCC Pitcher of the Year Jenna Perez and helped guide the team to an impressive 2.63 ERA in 2022 and a  2.97 ERA in 2023.

Overall, he should help Arizona immensely, and with the Wildcats bringing in ace Ryan Maddox and returning Devyn Netz, Aissa Silva, and Sydney Somerndike, he will have some solid pieces to work with!

While the hire hasn’t been made official yet by Arizona Athletics, here is a quick preview of the Wildcats’ new pitching coach!
