With Arizona Football taking on Northern Arizona this weekend, former Wildcat legend Rob Waldrop will be in attendance as the Honorary Captain.

It will be a busy weekend for Arizona Football when the Wildcats welcome Northern Arizona to town to kick off the 2023 season.

Beyond Arizona hosting the Lumberjacks, it will be a jam-packed week as the Wildcats begin their season, they will also be welcoming former Wildcat Rob Waldrop back into town.

Making news via social media on Tuesday morning, it was announced that the former legendary Wildcat and College Hall of Famer will be the honorary captain for the Wildcats in their game against NAU.

Returning to Tucson for the kick-off of the 2023 season, Rob Waldrop will once again reunite with the Arizona Football team.

It is always great seeing former Wildcats hanging around the program, especially when one of those former players happens to be the highly accomplished and legendary Waldrop.

A feisty and fierce competitor, Waldrop joined the Wildcats after being a standout defensive player from just up the road at Horizon High School in Scottsdale, AZ.

In a short time, Waldrop burst onto the scene, wreaking havoc in opposing backfields as he became a cornerstone of the infamous “Desert Swarm” defense, totaling 171 tackles, 22.5 sacks, and 45 tackles for loss as he helped lead Arizona to three bowl games.

Rob was so dominant, that he became one of college football’s most decorated players when he claimed the Outland, Nagurski, and Bednarik Trophies as a senior in 1993. He was also named the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year and won the Morris Trophy as the league’s best defensive lineman as a junior, and earned consensus All-American honors in 1992 and a unanimous All-American selection in 1993.

Even though his NFL career didn’t quite pan out, Rob was a dominant college player, and it will be great to see him return to Tucson to kick off the 2023 season!
