TUCSON, AZ – Returning home after a big win over Duke, No. 3 Arizona Basketball (2-0) returns to action to take on Southern University (1-1)!

We are quickly moving along in the 2023-24 Arizona Basketball season, and after earning a big-time win against then No. 2 Duke on Friday evening in Durham, the Wildcats are back in action!

Returning to the friendly confines of McKale Center, the Wildcats are back in action as they welcome Southern University to Tucson again.

Coming in, the Wildcats are the massive favorites, and rightfully so; however, that doesn’t mean Arizona can rest on its laurels, as they will need to be ready to go in this one.

After an emotional and energy-draining game, the Wildcats cannot afford a lackluster effort in this one and will need to be sharp from the tip. Either way, I do see the Wildcats winning big in this one!

Getting to Know the details about Arizona Basketball’s opponent, the Southern Jaguars.

Team: Southern Jaguars

Conference: Southwestern Athletic Conference

Current Record: 1–1

Head Coach: Kevin Johnson enters his 1st season as head coach of the Jaguars where he is currently 1–1 on the year, and hopes to turn around a Southern program in dire need of a jolt.

Taking over for previous head coach Sean Woods, Johnson comes in after not having been a head coach in quite some time. Before Southern, Kevin coached at Centenary from 1999-05, compiling a 65–100 record.

Overall, he is 66–101 as a head basketball coach.

2022 Record: Finishing the 2022-23 season with a 15–17 (11–7) record, the Jaguars ended their year with a 4th Place finish in the SWAC before losing to fifth-seeded Alabama A&M in the SWAC Tournament.

Arizona Basketball Game Preview:

After stunning then No. 2 ranked Duke at home, Arizona is back in action for a quick turnaround against Southern University.

Welcoming the Jaguars to Tucson, the Wildcats are the heavy favorites in this one and should win rather handily, so long as they take care of business.

The last time these two teams met was in Tucson last year where the Wildcats came away with the comfortable win; however, now is not the time to get complacent.

Arizona has several key matchups coming up and this will be a great opportunity for the Cats to get more players reps with the meat of the schedule quickly approaching.

If Arizona is to win this one, they are going to have to play their game and enforce its will early on. If they do that, look for this one to be a dominant win for the Cats! Tip-off is set for 6:00 P.M. Tucson time!
